Pink Town

It's the pink town where Cupid and his team live. It's where all the houses are heart shaped. It is the place where arrows are peaceful weapons. Its streets are made of young girls' ribbons and satin sashes. Its rain smells of strawberry lollipop and its clouds are made of cotton candy. Its people fly to work. Their beds are made of marshmallows. Their walls are painted in nail polish. Their water is pink lemonade. It's a place where hate does not exist, where the air smells of roses all year long.

Who Voted for Shafiq?

After standing in a line with the Heliopolis ladies who were mostly voting for Shafiq, I came back home wondering why would anyone do such thing? The most popular answer I got from the ladies was in fear of Ikhwan. Knowing that the percentage of Christians here is more than in other places, and knowing that us, the ladies of Heliopolis, can never live the life of Ikhwan with what Azza El Garf says about FGM and sexual harassment laws, with forcing us to wear or not wear something (even the veiled of us), with having men control our lives, with having someone control our religious practices it makes sense to be against Ikhwan. And being one of those ladies, I too am against Ikhwan and anyone who mixes religion with politics. Egypt Uprising 2013: One Last Push

June 29, 2013 Tamarod Tamarod (Rebel), the public movement that has been collecting signatures for the past two months to call for early presidential elections with the aim of finding a legal way to topple President Mohamed Morsi, announced the final signature count in a press conference this morning. The number announced was 22,134,465 signatures. Mahmoud Badr, the movement's founder, made a call for more than 22 million people to join the protests tomorrow and stay in the streets until they bring Morsi down. He also announced that the president's legitimacy has fallen after they've collected a number of signatures th at is more than 85% of the number of voters in the presidential elections. Badr answered those who question the number by demanding early elections, saying that this was the only way to prove the accuracy of either of their numbers.
