Presidential Campaigns: Khaled Ali

Image
Slogan Bread, freedom, social justice and We'll make their dream a reality: Khaled Ali's campaign is very poor unfortunately, so the advertising is not very professional. So I found two slogans both are revolution's chants... Sort of lack of creativity, but this is their way of proving that he's one of the revolutionary candidates. Both are nice and revolutionary and since these chants are the revolution's demands they make sense. But they could've done better with creating a new revolutionary slogan. Poster   Very simple with the flag colors. He has a look of a dreamer, this is a problem. I'd rather he looks straight to us, not down and not up. We want a realistic person, yes someone who can make dreams come true, but not a dreamer who looks to the sky and forgets to look ahead. The font of the slogan is awful! A Halloween font, very very very bad choice. Yellow is a nice, friendly color, good choice. Him not wearing a tie is a very old c...

Presidential Campaigns: Abd El Moneim Abo El Fotooh

Slogan The Powerful Egypt:  a nice slogan that gives a shot of hope. His explanation of a powerful Egypt is one that is economically, politically, scientifically and militarily powerful. One that will give power and dignity to every Egyptian. The fact that his program makes it sound like an impossible dream is not the slogan's problem. The one problem with the slogan is actually within us; the minute I read it I remember the old regime that only showed its power on its people. Yet, of course this is not what he means. Poster Choosing the color orange signifies energy which gives a feeling that his aim is hard work that will lead to the powerful Egypt, very good choice. Also having the sky and the shining sun in the poster makes you think that the sky is his limit. Choosing a scene from the revolution to say that he is a revolutionary candidate was not really needed, it's his actions, slogan and program that should say that. Plus, not every person who took par...

Presidential Campaigns: Hamdeen Sabahy

Image
Let me make a few things clear; first, my only knowledge of advertising is one chapter I took in high school. So these series are not by any means written from an expert's point of view, it is just a mere opinion of a "consumer" if we can say that. Since this is also the first time we have presidential campaigns here, I have to say that I don't know much about these campaigns, so these posts are also an opinion of a person who cares about campaigns being as clean, pure and truthful as should be, and not like how it is in the rest of the world. And last, liking or hating somebody's campaign is not at all related to liking him or his program. I've chosen the few candidates whose posters are almost everywhere and those who we could think of as potential. In these series I will be comparing between Hamdeen Sabahy, Abd El Moniem Abo El Fotooh, Khaled Ali, Seleem El Awwa, Mohamed Morsy, Amr Moussa and Ahmed Shafiq in this same order. Slogan     One of us:...

Personal Space

I don't think this phrase exists in Egypt, at all. It's not actually only about leaving a space between you and the person in front of you in the queue in order to not invade their personal space. Personal space is not only the tangible space that many are always trying to invade, hence sexual harassment and other things. There is also the intangible personal space, and invading it is done even more, and invading it is even worse! Oh my God, you're not married yet! Or even worse: I want you to get married right now so I can see your kids. Get a respectable job! You spend too much on the wrong things, you have to save most of your earnings You shouldn't wear this You shouldn't talk to them You shouldn't say that You shouldn't think that way You spend too much time on the phone/online Your clothes are ugly You've become too thin, gain some weight/ you've become too fat, lose some weight You should wake up early ...

Pink Town

It's the pink town where Cupid and his team live. It's where all the houses are heart shaped. It is the place where arrows are peaceful weapons. Its streets are made of young girls' ribbons and satin sashes. Its rain smells of strawberry lollipop and its clouds are made of cotton candy. Its people fly to work. Their beds are made of marshmallows. Their walls are painted in nail polish. Their water is pink lemonade. It's a place where hate does not exist, where the air smells of roses all year long.

Run of Freedom

Running like a free woman, she feels herself fly with every step she takes. She feels so light in the air, not like an aimless feather. The oxygen that gets into her lungs feels cleaner, not like that on the ground. Her heart beats faster when she flies, but not in a way that steals your breaths. She feels every muscle doing its job, but not in a way that hurts her. With every time she touches the ground she decides that the she won't stop. She came from nowhere and wasn't going somewhere, but she knew exactly where she was going. She ran like a queen, she felt like she had all the power in the world, all the inspiration, all the happiness, all the freedom, and she knew that all this lied in having nothing.

Be Free, Part Five: To See is to Do

Since I have said everything I wanted to say about obsessions and how to set ourselves free from them, I'd like to end this series with two things: first, I must thank my friend from Sri Lanka who wrote very nice comments on Slaves , they're the reason that made me think about obsessions again and helped me find the way to set myself free from them. So to my Sri Lankan anonymous friend, if you're reading this, thank you. The second thing is a reminder.... It is Horus's eye, to see is to do. Seeing a truth and not acting upon it means that you're still where you are. Seeing the truth is not the first step of the path of changing, it is only finding the path. It's up to you to take the path or to ignore it. Having great knowledge doesn't make us wise, it's acting upon that knowledge that does. So we might know that we're obsessed with a thing or two, but we might not try to let go. We might know how to set ourselves free of these obsessions, but w...
